This role is open to current Manchester Metropolitan students who have undertaken the training and certification exams as part of either the Microsoft, Adobe or Project Management Certification Scheme

Preference may be given to applicants who hold certifications across more than one scheme.

This is an exciting opportunity to help develop the digital capabilities of Criminology and Sociology students at MMU. During Semesters 1-2, there will be a series of events that will allow students to undertake the relevant training and complete a certification exam for their chosen application.

Digital Mentors may support, and eventually lead, in the facilitation of several kinds of events;

  • Q&A Drop-in sessions
  • Exam sessions

Mentors will be working with students to help them:

  • Provide assistance to students struggling with particular tasks
  • Identify software issues
  • Proctor exams

Dates: 29th September 2026- 31st May 2027
Hours of Work: up to 16 hours a week during peak times - hours may be inconsistent

Person Specification

Essential

  • Current Manchester Metropolitan University undergraduate or postgraduate student.
  • At least one relevant Microsoft, Adobe or PMI certification.
  • Ability to support students patiently in drop-in and group settings.
  • Good communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to explain digital tools clearly and adapt support to different levels of ability.
  • Reliability and attention to detail when supporting or proctoring examinations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and gradually take greater responsibility for sessions.

Desirable

  • Currently studying, or having studied, Criminology, Sociology or a related subject.
  • Familiarity with how digital tools may be used within Criminology and Sociology study.
  • Certifications across more than one scheme.
  • Previous peer mentoring, student support, teaching or workshop experience.
  • Confidence leading sessions after receiving appropriate guidance.
