The Department of Health Professions are looking for a Social Media Intern to help showcase the inspiring work happening across our programmes.

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in content creation, social media management and digital storytelling - ideal for anyone building a portfolio or exploring a career in media, communications or marketing.

About the Role

Working alongside staff across the department, you will help create and curate engaging content for our social media channels primarily LinkedIn. You'll be given a monthly content plan and the freedom to bring your creative ideas to life.

The department delivers a range of programmes, including primary education, secondary education, special and inclusive education, Early years and childhood studies giving you plenty of opportunities to capture meaningful, varied content.

What You'll Do

  • Draft and edit social media posts and visual materials
  • Create engaging multimedia content such as photos, reels, graphics and short videos
  • Attend on-campus events to capture content
  • Identify events, stories and opportunities for online promotion
  • Support the analysis of social media accounts across similar departments or sectors
  • Collaborate with students and staff when capturing content
  • Report ideas and progress to Karen Tuzylak who leads departmental social media

Dates and Training Information

Dates: 21 September 2026 - 30 April 2027 (32 weeks)

Contract: total 64 hours
Maximum weekly hours: 5 hours
Hours will vary depending on workload, agreed in advance with the manager, and tracked locally to ensure the 64-hour limit is not exceeded.

Training will be provided relating to social media policy and practice for Manchester Met and the Dept.

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

  • You must be studying at Level 4,5 or 6 from September 2026 ,and be enrolled until at least Summer 2027
  • Experience using Adobe Express, Canva, Photoshop, and basic video-editing software
  • Confident writing for different platforms and audiences
  • Good understanding of social media's role in student recruitment, engagement and promotion
  • Awareness of the Department of Education Professions and enthusiasm for representing the university
  • Awareness of branding guidelines and basic legal/copyright considerations when creating content
  • Able to work independently, behave professionally and meet deadlines
  • Creative, proactive and able to contribute fresh ideas
  • Desire to learn brand requirements
