Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified member of Police Staff to join the Economic Crime Financial Investigation Unit. The post is based at HQ, but following accreditation, there will be the potential to work anywhere in the Force, as well as agile working in line with the Force policy

You will receive training to assist you in this specialist role. As a trainee Financial Investigator, you will be expected to undertake a series of courses, exams and portfolios in order to gain the necessary understanding required to pursue asset recovery opportunities from some of the most serious criminals and organised crime groups harming Cheshire's communities.

This is a flexi-time post and the core shift pattern is Monday to Friday 08:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs

Role responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain an effective knowledge of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and ensure it is applied effectively.
  • Work alongside investigation teams within the LPUs to ensure the assets of criminals are identified and positive action taken to achieve forfeiture or confiscation in accordance with POCA, thereby denying them of criminal benefit.
  • Build knowledge, consistency and operational competence amongst the staff within LPUs with regards to financial investigation, with a particular focus on the application of POCA and related legislation.

Skills and experience:
  • If not already qualified, be willing to undertake relevant Financial Investigation qualifications through the NCA - Financial Intelligence Officer (FIO), Financial Investigator (FI), Civil Recovery in Criminal Proceedings (CRiSP) and Confiscation.
  • Experience of working within Economic Crime is desirable but not mandatory as the post-holder will be given the opportunity to undertake the relevant courses.
  • Previous experience in the investigation of serious and complex crime is also desirable
  • Knowledge of legislation including Proceeds of Crime Act, Police and Criminal Evidence, and Company Law.
