Salary: £28,598 - £30,384per annum

Hours per week: 37

Working pattern: The working pattern is Monday to Thursday 7.5 hours, Friday 7 hours

Weeks per Annum: 52 weeks per annum

Location: Abingdon Campus

Contract type: Permanent

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Senior Workshop Technician (Carpentry) to join our growing team at the Construction Centre, Abingdon Campus.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to play a key role in supporting high-quality practical learning and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our workshops. As our provision continues to expand, you will bring technical expertise, initiative and a passion for education, helping students develop essential practical skills across a range of construction disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the lead technical specialist within the workshop, supporting teaching staff with practical delivery, materials and equipment selection.
  • Support and supervise students in developing their practical skills, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Plan and deliver technical demonstrations, inductions and equipment training for students and staff.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the workshop, including maintaining high standards of organisation and housekeeping.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, including risk assessments, COSHH and safe systems of work.
  • Manage tools, equipment and stock, including ordering materials, liaising with suppliers and conducting regular stock audits.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, fault finding and arranging servicing where necessary.

Essential:
  • Level 2 qualification in carpentry or a relevant construction trade (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong practical knowledge of workshop tools, equipment and processes.
  • Experience working within a construction or workshop environment.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of health and safety in a workshop or construction setting.
  • Ability to support students of all ages, particularly 16-18 learners.

Desirable:
  • Experience supervising or coordinating others.
  • Experience delivering training or mentoring learners.
  • Health and safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH) or willingness to work towards.
