Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our department. This is a part-time post (18.75 hours per week) working as part of a job share arrangement alongside another part-time Senior Sister. The department operates Monday to Friday, 07:30-18:00.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to lead and motivate teams, and support the development of staff and services.

The post holder will be self-motivated, organised and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. They will support workforce management, patient safety, governance, service improvement and the delivery of quality care.

The Eye Unit is a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary service caring for patients with a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. Our team includes nurses, healthcare support workers, ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians and administrative staff.

The department comprises a busy outpatient service, a day-case ward caring for patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery under local and general anaesthetic, and a nurse-led anti-VEGF injection service. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team and contribute to the ongoing development of ophthalmology services.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse is accountable and responsible for the care delivery and management of the Eye unit. This will including the supervision of staff and students. You will be involved in datix investigations, Health Roster, vacancy management, appraisals, ensuring staff training is up to date.

In order to achieve this the senior sister/charge nurse will work in a supervisory capacity and be expected to lead and manage team performance thus enhancing the patient experience, improving patient outcomes and contributing to the organisational priorities.

The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will act as an exemplar role model delivering high standards of care through demonstrating care and compassion at all times.
