Job summary

Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare. Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Senior Medicines Optimisation Technician to join the KCHFT-LMO Medicines Optimisation Team. This key role will support the delivery of the Medicines Optimisation Strategy, helping to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the local population and improve patient outcomes across primary care services.

Working collaboratively with GP practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), prescribers, and wider healthcare professionals, you will play a pivotal role in promoting the safe, effective, and evidence-based use of medicines.

Main duties of the job

  • Support prescribers and practice teams in the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines.
  • Undertake medicines-related reviews, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse and utilise prescribing and patient data systems to identify opportunities for optimisation and improved patient care.
  • Contribute to the delivery of medicines optimisation priorities, including QIPP (Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention) programmes and medicines safety initiatives.
  • Lead and support innovative projects that enhance medicines optimisation across GP practices and Primary Care Networks.Provide mentoring, guidance, and professional support to pharmacy technicians and other members of the medicines optimisation team.
  • Promote and encourage safe, evidence-based prescribing practices in line with national and local guidance.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, reduce medicines-related risks, and ensure high-quality pharmaceutical care.
