Senior Instrumentation Technician

Job description

The primary purpose of this role is to plan and execute the deployment of instrumentation on explosive and ballistic trials and to accurately record, process and present the resulting data. You will provide specialist technical expertise, operate and maintain a range of instrumentation, troubleshoot equipment and support the delivery of successful trials.

COTEC is an outstation of Cranfield Defence and Security within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences and is located on Salisbury Plain south of Devizes. The site is leased from the MOD and all range operations are carried out under the authority of Defence Training Estates Salisbury Plain DTE(SP). The site carries out a large range of tasks primarily based around the testing and evaluation of explosives, ordnance and munitions for defence and commercial customers. The site also carries out research and supports the research projects of Cranfield University students.

About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to plan and execute the deployment of instrumentation on explosive and ballistic trials and to accurately record, process and present the resulting data. You will provide specialist technical expertise, operate and maintain a range of instrumentation, troubleshoot equipment and support the delivery of successful trials. The role also includes key Health & Safety, radiation protection and armoury responsibilities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and maintaining high standards of safety and security.

About You

We are looking for someone with a strong technical background and a practical, problem-solving approach. You will have a relevant HND or degree (or be working towards one), with substantial experience in technical data capture and, ideally, experience of explosive trials.

You will have excellent organisational, planning and communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You will be confident working independently, managing competing priorities and using your initiative, while also contributing effectively as part of a team.

You will be comfortable working with Microsoft Office and other digital systems, and able to create and follow procedures, monitor budgets and maintain high standards of quality and Health & Safety.
