Salary £40,777 - £46,142 per annum (pay award pending) | Permanent, Full Time 37 hours per week

Help shape the future of flood risk management across Lancashire.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Flood Risk Engineer to join our Flood Risk Management Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in reducing flood risk across Lancashire, helping to protect residents, businesses, critical infrastructure and the environment.

As part of the County Council's Environment Service, you will work within the Flood Risk Management Team, acting on behalf of the Lead Local Flood Authority. You will take a lead role in investigating flood incidents, identifying and developing flood risk solutions, managing projects and supporting the delivery of the Council's statutory responsibilities under flood risk legislation.

This is a varied and rewarding role that combines technical expertise, project delivery, stakeholder engagement and people management. You'll work closely with residents, elected members, district councils, planning authorities, environment agencies and other risk management authorities to understand local challenges and deliver practical flood risk management solutions.

While the office base will be in Cuerden (situated between Leyland and Bamber Bridge), you'll work across Lancashire, helping to deliver flood risk management services and projects that make a real difference to local communities.

About you

You will be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic flood risk professional with experience in a technical engineering, environmental or related discipline. You will be confident working with complex information, solving problems and building productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will also have:
  • A degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant subject area.
  • Experience of preparing technical reports and presenting complex information clearly.
  • Experience of managing projects and contributing to policy and procedural development.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience of leading or supervising technical staff.
  • A good understanding of flood risk management legislation, governance and industry best practice.
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Experience within flood and coastal risk management, development management or planning environments would be advantageous.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on communities across Lancashire while developing your career within a supportive and highly skilled professional team. You'll work on meaningful projects, collaborate with a broad range of partners and play a key role in helping Lancashire adapt to future flood risk challenges.

If you're passionate about protecting communities, delivering practical engineering solutions and helping shape the future of flood risk management, we'd love to hear from you.
