Senior Dispensary Pharmacy Technician - Management Support to join our dynamic pharmacy team at the Royal London Hospital.
In this exciting Band 5 role, you will provide senior managerial support within our busy dispensary, helping to ensure the accurate, safe, and timely dispensing of medicines for inpatients, outpatients, clinics, discharge prescriptions, and controlled drugs. Working closely with senior pharmacy staff, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the dispensary, supporting workload organisation, staff supervision, governance compliance, and service delivery.
You will be responsible for monitoring key performance indicators, supporting stock management, participating in audits, and contributing to the continuous improvement of pharmacy services. As an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT), you will help maintain high standards of patient safety while supporting efficient patient flow and reducing delays in discharge.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide senior technical support working in the dispensary to ensure the accurate and timely dispensing of all medication. Ensure patients receive a prompt and efficient service. The role will also involve supporting the supply of discharge prescriptions, inpatient requests, clinics prescriptions , and controlled drug prescriptions and will assist in leading on the day to day running of the in-patient pharmacy dispensaries.
They will also assist the dispensary senior staff in the ensuring that good stock management is maintained in the dispensary., whilst keeping wastage to a minimum. Ensuring that the department keeps up to date with governance regulations.
To support the dispensary manager and senior pharmacy team with the day-to-day management of the dispensary, including organisation of workload, KPI monitoring and supervision of all staff in the dispensary.
The post holder may be required to carry out medicine management duties on the wards and conduct audits for controlled drug management, medicines management, TTA pack management and FP10 management.

Person specificationQualifications Essential criteria - BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
Desirable criteria - Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
- ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
- HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent
Experience Essential criteria - Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy setting
- Significant experience as a pharmacy technician
- Dispensing experience
- Pharmacy labelling and stock control systems
- Patient consultation experience
- Experience of pharmacy stock distribution and top-up services
Desirable criteria - Recruitment and selection experience
- Experience of using healthcare computer systems, e.g. CMM & EPMA
Knowledge Essential criteria - Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- Understanding of stock control systems
- Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
