The Market Intelligence team sits within the Financial Resilience & Controls directorate. We monitor developments in the domestic and non-domestic retail energy market, and provide data and analysis used across the organisation to help inform decisions on key policies. The analysis our team undertakes helps to provide insight into the current state of the market, as well as horizon analysis on what the organisation should be considering over the coming years.

Purpose
  • Leading a high priority workstream driving the evolution of how Ofgem monitors tariff and proposition data.
  • Producing key pieces of analysis and documentation regarding tariffs and propositions in the retail energy market

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on a policy change consultation relevant to the evolving tariff and proposition landscape.
  • Drive the improvement of how tariff data is acquired and made available throughout the organisation.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to ensure appropriate pipelines and datasets are scoped and constructed.
  • Develop new ways to improve tariff data accessibility across the organisation.
  • Become a go-to resource within the organisation for tariffs and propositions; continually improve breadth of market knowledge.
  • Produce key pieces of routine and ad-hoc analysis, especially regarding novel and innovative tariffs and propositions.
  • Prepare data and slide deck that concisely summarise key market developments.
  • Manage relationships with third-party data providers and other relevant parties.

Person specification

Essential Criteria
  • Demonstrable expertise in the retail energy tariff and proposition space. (LEAD)
  • Experience leading on and/or writing consultations on policy changes (or similar).
  • Evidence of robust analytical skills and decision making.
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud data warehousing platforms.
  • Robust technical proficiency with modelling tools, particularly Excel (or equivalent).
  • Proven excellence in processing, visualising, and communicating complex information.

Desirable Criteria
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or R.
  • High-level knowledge of data pipelines.
