About the Role

Horbury Academy are seeking to appoint a resilient, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEN Learning Mentor to join our supportive team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead Learning Mentors and the SENCo to deliver high-quality curriculum support and targeted interventions for pupils at risk of significant underachievement. The role will focus on removing barriers to learning, promoting academic progress, and supporting pupils' personal, social, and emotional development to help them achieve their full potential.

The SEN Learning Mentor will deliver a range of targeted intervention programmes that achieve measurable outcomes for vulnerable pupils. They will plan and deliver bespoke SEND support and curriculum interventions for small groups of pupils, tailored to their individual needs and areas of difficulty, helping them to make sustained academic, social, and emotional progress.

The postholder will provide high-quality pastoral and practical support to pupils, including assistance with social, physical, health, welfare, and first aid needs. They will also support pupils with behavioural and emotional needs in small group settings and within the classroom, promoting engagement, inclusion, independence, and positive learning behaviours.

About You

The successful candidate will be...
  • NVQ Level 3 Qualified or able to demonstrate a comparable level of relevant experience.
  • Knowledgeable about the development of numeracy and literacy skills, and the techniques required to support pupils in acquiring them.
  • Capable of managing a range of tasks efficiently and applying effective organisational skills.
  • Skilled in establishing effective working relationships with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Committed to inspiring, engaging, and motivating young people, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, build resilience, and achieve their full potential.
  • Qualified to GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
