Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Royal London Hospital for two dynamic, innovative, and highly motivated Renal & Transplant and Pain & Ophthalmology Theatre Practitioners to join our team as a Band 7 Senior Team Leader. We are seeking professionals with substantial experience
as a Band 6 either in Renal & Transplant and Pain & Ophthalmology scrub roles within an acute hospital setting to lead teams within Adult Theatres.

Our hospital boasts 21 state-of-the-art theatres dedicated to a range of elective and emergency specialties and complex procedures, including hepatobiliary surgery, complex ENT, trauma and orthopaedics, reconstructive orthopaedics, neurosurgery, complex vascular surgery,
interventional radiology, maxillofacial surgery, robotic procedures, renal transplants, plastic and reconstructive surgery, urology, and ophthalmic surgery. We also offer paediatric expertise to the major trauma service for Southeast England.

The successful candidate will lead and support a team of theatre scrub professionals, ensuring high standards of patient care are delivered. A key responsibility will be providing clinical supervision and developing team members to ensure they possess the skills and attributes
required to support the service safely within The Royal London Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for effective and efficient operational day to day management of the practice setting, including standards of care, budget management
and control, clinical governance staff development and training. The post holder is
professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards of professional practice
and standards of care. They will provide professional clinical leadership within a
defined practice setting and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all
members within the multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will undertake and supervise clinical practice, audit, research and
teaching to set, monitor and continuously improve standards of care and patient
experience. The post holder is accountable for managing and developing team
performance, managing a devolved budget ensuring efficient and effective use of
physical and human resources.

The post holder will Take ultimate responsibility for the standard of the environment
within his/her identified area of responsibility, ensuring patients' needs are met and
staff maintain cleanliness as defined by national standards. They will be accessible
and visible to staff, patients and visitors and will ensure that patients are treated with
respect and dignity. They will act as professional role models and provide direction and
inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the area for
which accountable for.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• NMC Registered Nurse/ HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
• Specialist knowledge of theatres procedures / instrumentation acquired though degree or diploma plus experience and further post registration study / experience or management qualification in a related field
• Certificate of Mentorship or clinical supervision and assessor training
• Leadership training

Desirable criteria

• Working towards master's degree or above.

Experience

Essential criteria

• Sufficient and/or extensive experience at band 6 level within Scrub role
• Experience in staff / practice development including undertaking appraisals and Personal development plans.
• Management experience including management of rota, resources, budgets and staff.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Good IT/Keyboard skills. Knowledge as a minimum of Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
• Can demonstrate understanding of Mental Capacity Act/Safeguarding principles applied to the theatre practice setting
