Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Post is based at County Hospital.

To participate in the yearly personal performance review (PDR)
• To comply with the NMC Code of Conduct at all times
• The Post holder will be responsible for the assessment of the needs, development of
programmes of care, and for the implementation and evaluation of these programmes
for patients and their relatives.
• To competently and safely administer Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and
supportive treatments.
• To provide a high standard of clinical nursing within the department
• To manage a group of patients
• To take charge of the ward when rostered and assessed as competent to take on the roles and responsibilities of leadership and supervision
• To act as a role model to students and Clinical Support Workers
• To present a positive, professional image of the organisation and of the nursing team

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Has experience as a Registered Nurse in an Acute Oncology Hospital setting.
  • Venepuncture and cannulation Skills
  • Systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) Passport
  • NMC pin number
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience


Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification in teaching and assessing, or evidence of delivering teaching.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously
  • Oncology qualification

  • Ability to use a computer
  • Degree level study
  • Good communication skills with MDT


Desirable criteria
  • Able to use own initiative.
  • Knowledge around patient safety
