Job overview

To provide a confidential reception and data entry service for the Cancer Care and Haematology Department and Sunrise Cancer Unit.

As part of Cancer administration, staff will also provide cross cover of our other admin areas, for example two week wait office, data collection/validation and general administration.

Main duties of the job
• As the first point of contact in the unit, welcome patients, visitors and trust staff, providing reception duties.
• Make, amend and cancel as necessary outpatient appointments.
• Attend to patients on arrival and liaise with the medical staff to ensure that correct data is recorded on the Medway computer system.
• Register new patients on hospital Medway and computer systems and ensure patient details are updated as required.
• Deal sensitively with large numbers of telephone queries from patients/relatives, General Practice surgeries and medical/admin staff at all levels.
• Working together with the administration staff to assist in the preparation of clinics and clinical notes, and patient details are up-to-date and available for the daily clinics.
• Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients who did not attend their appointments, either by telephone or letter in order to facilitate a new appointment.
• Arrange hospital transport for patients attending the clinic.
• Flexibility for covering illness/annual leave with team members.
• General clerical duties ie filing, faxing and photocopying.
