Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • The Radiology Department Assistant (RDA) is responsible to the Community RDA Manager; and through them accountable to the Service Managers and Deputy Operational Lead.
  • The RDA will work closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues within the Radiology Department and liaise with other departments, wards and services ensure effective communication and provide the highest level of care to our patients
  • Carry out duties as assigned; involving patient care and welfare; assisting the Radiology team where appropriate.
  • To assist patients prior to, during, and after the examination including being able to give the patient a basic explanation of procedures.
  • To assist in the safe discharge of the patient from the department.
  • To demonstrate high levels of patient care and work closely with qualified staff maintaining a hands on approach to patient needs.
  • Adhere to Infection control measures and perform the cleaning of equipment post procedure in line with relevant protocols and policies.
  • Assist in the cleaning and preparation of the room prior to and post procedure.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Satisfactory level of General Education.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to further learning and personal development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to undertake a core induction programme and complete the Care Certificate. This is essential training and development for all new staff


Desirable criteria
  • GCSE in English or equivalent
  • Additional studies post compulsory education


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people in either a paid employment or in a voluntary capacity.
  • To be able to work unsupervised with the public.
  • Computer literacy


Desirable criteria
  • Basic administration reception skills.
  • Other health related experience.


Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential criteria
  • Assess the needs of patients and work closely with other qualified staff to ensure attention to detail


Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manoeuvre radiographic equipment.
  • Ability to wear/work in lead protective clothing
  • Ability to manoeuvre wheelchairs, trolleys and beds and aid patient transfer following appropriate training
  • Able to deal with body fluid spillages.


Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria
  • Have organisational skills to plan workload, liaise with others and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
  • To be responsible for own workload within the team.

  • Participate in out-of-hours shifts including weekends, nights and Bank Holidays.
  • Participate in on-call (where required).
  • Able and willing to work at any of the nine UHL hospital and community sites.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
