This is an opportunity within the Adult Deaf and Visual Impairment Service (ADVIS), offering the chance to join an established, specialist countywide team supporting adults with sensory impairments.
ADVIS is a multidisciplinary service comprising of Social Workers, Occupational Therapist, Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Officers, Enablement Officers for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people, and Promoting Independence Workers. While the team is based at Sherwood Energy Village, the service operates across Nottinghamshire and supports adults of all ages.
The overarching aim of the service is to support people with sensory needs to live independently and safely at home through therapy, rehabilitation and strengths-based social care support.
As an ADVIS Promoting Independence Worker, you will:- Work directly with Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) users and people who are deafblind to develop, maintain and improve daily living skills
- Deliver short-term, agreed programmes of reablement-focused support
- Promote independence and maximise outcomes for service users
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across ADVIS and wider Adult Social Care
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to effective service delivery
Essential Requirements- Ability to communicate fluently in British Sign Language (BSL). This role requires direct one-to-one work with Deaf BSL-using adults without the routine use of interpreters. Applicants must therefore be BSL users or have demonstrable BSL skills at a level appropriate for professional practice (e.g. BSL Level 3 or equivalent fluency).
- Experience of working with Deaf BSL users, people with visual impairment and/or people who are deafblind
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Countywide travel required. The use of a car is required for this role.
Due to the nature of the role and the needs of the people we work with, applications are particularly welcomed from Deaf people, in line with Nottinghamshire County Council's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to improving outcomes for Deaf communities.
This post is subject to the Council's standard pre-employment checks.
