Details:

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Pottery & Ceramic Sculpture Facilitator to deliver our Friday afternoon courses running across the 2026/27 academic year.

This progressive curriculum is designed to take learners on a journey from absolute beginners to intermediate sculptors and potters. You will guide learners through hand-building techniques, sculpting methods, and surface decoration, helping them build confidence as they transition through increasingly complex projects over three terms.
  • Deliver Technical Ceramics Instruction, teach core hand-building techniques (pinching, coiling, slab building) and ceramic sculpting methods.
  • Progressive Curriculum Delivery, manage the transition from basic techniques in the Autumn term to more advanced sculptural construction, joining, and surface finishing (glazing, slips, and oxides) in the Winter and Spring/Summer terms.
  • Studio Management & Safety by overseeing health and safety in the pottery studio, including the safe handling of clay dust, sharp tools, glazes, and assisting with kiln packing/unpacking procedures.
  • Individualised Feedback,provide hands-on, supportive guidance to help learners realize their individual design ideas, troubleshooting structural issues like joint cracking or air pockets.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Technical Expertise, a strong personal practice in ceramics and clay sculpture, with deep knowledge of clay bodies, drying stages, glazing, and firing processes.
  • Teaching/Facilitation Experience, experience teaching pottery or 3D art to adults in a community, workshop, or studio setting.
  • Patience & Encouragement, a supportive teaching style that helps beginners overcome the physical challenges of working with clay while pushing intermediate learners to refine their intricate details.

Organisational Skills:

Ability to manage the physical workflow of a ceramics studio (drying times, greenware storage, and glaze cycles) alongside teaching hours.
