Job description

The Borkar lab focusses on high-resolution investigation of RNA mediated disease pathologies during viral infection and rare genetic disorders. We are looking for an experienced postdoctoral research fellow to lead the computational arm of a Leverhulme-funded project investigating how cryogenic OrbiSIMS interacts with complex biomolecular structures. Working closely with experimentalists and international collaborators, you will simulate fragmentation processes and model the influence of surface potential on secondary ion yields in the OrbiSIMS instrument. Your insights will help us decode how structure, charge, and instrument parameters influence OrbiSIMS spectra.

You should have a PhD degree in in computational chemistry, biophysics, molecular modelling, or a related field, and experience of reactive force field molecular simulations, supervised machine learning techniques and understanding of mass spectrometry techniques.

The post is available for 3 years from 1 September 2026.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
