Job Summary
• To be responsible for and coordinate the day to day delivery of physiotherapy provision within the paediatric community team based at Parkview Health Centre and when required at the Chelsea & Westminster hospital .
• To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a designated caseload and maintain up to date physiotherapy records
• To work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team providing a holistic service to the child and their family/carer
• To use evidence based principles/current best practice and specialist skills to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions and to ensure that all junior members of your team do likewise
• To participate in CPD and other developmental activities and encourage all members of your team to do accordingly
• To be responsible for the supervision, teaching and day to day line management of allocated junior staff and students on clinical placement
• To participate in or lead service development projects including research and audit

Main Duties
• To undertake highly specialised physiotherapy assessments, using appropriate therapy techniques and therapeutic handling skills to form diagnoses and/or establish impairments/disabilities.
• To use good communication skills to agree therapy goals with individual patients and families/carers and school staff using previous experience to ensure goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, resourced and appropriately timed.
• To monitor and evaluate treatment measuring progress to ensure effective intervention and identify when treatment requires modifying.
• To use in-depth clinical reasoning, comprehensive understanding of complex paediatric conditions, and wide-ranging knowledge of treatment options to plan and implement individual therapy programmes and treatment protocols, using highly developed therapy treatment techniques and therapeutic handling skills that are age appropriate.
• To support more junior staff in the development of their assessment, treatment and clinical reasoning skills to ensure a high standard of care.

Person specification

Physiotherapy qualification

Essential criteria

• BSc or Diploma in Physiotherapy
• HCPC registration
• Evidence of ongoing CPD

Desirable criteria

• Member of CSP and paediatric special interest group
• Evidence of recent post-graduate education and/or qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria

• Demonstrates evidence of Band 6 (or equivalent) working in paediatrics including early intervention, neurodevelopmental, orthopaedic and complex needs giving caseload examples
• Demonstrates experience of orthotic provision including concise examples
• Demonstrates evidence of using paediatric outcome measures including concise examples
• Demonstrates evidence of appraisal and supervision of junior staff including concise examples

Desirable criteria

• Experience working as a Band 7 in Paediatric Physiotherapy
• Demonstrates experience of involvement in service development and/or audit including concise examples

Skills

Essential criteria

• Demonstrates specialist knowledge of paediatric assessment and treatment interventions including concise examples
• Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning skills including concise examples
• Able to work independently and monitor workload of team
• Demonstrates knowledge of statutory requirements and legislation relating to children and families including specific examples on how this has impacted your previous work

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of participation in research or audit including concise examples
