An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 5 Registered Practitioner to join the Orthopaedic and Spinal Theatre Team at Chapel Allerton Hospital, part of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Working within our busy Elective Surgical Hub, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality perioperative care for patients undergoing a wide range of orthopaedic and spinal procedures. Our department currently comprises four elective operating theatres and is undergoing an exciting expansion programme, with two additional theatres currently being built, creating opportunities to influence and support the future development of the service.
Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 Practitioner, you will be supported to develop your knowledge, skills and experience within a specialist surgical environment, working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team committed to delivering excellent patient care. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about elective surgery, demonstrate strong clinical, communication and organisational skills, and are committed to their own professional development. Whether you are newly qualified or have existing theatre experience, you will be supported through a comprehensive induction, preceptorship programme and ongoing learning opportunities. Current registration with the NMC or HCPC is essential for all registered professional roles.We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Registered Practitioner who is keen to develop their skills within a specialist elective orthopaedic and spinal theatre environment. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be adaptable and well organised, and thrive in a busy multidisciplinary team. Job Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering safe, effective perioperative care to patients undergoing elective orthopaedic and spinal procedures. You will contribute to audit, quality improvement and service development activities, helping to ensure compliance with clinical governance requirements and best practice standards.

As a Band 5 practitioner, you will work closely with registered and unregistered colleagues, apprentices, students and learners, contributing to a positive and supportive learning environment. You will be encouraged to develop your clinical knowledge and leadership skills through structured training, education and mentorship opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing Elective Surgical Hub and build a rewarding career within a supportive team dedicated to delivering outstanding patient care.

All applicants are required to have current UK NMC registration, with evidence of registrant clinical practice in the UK, or be a final-year nursing student studying in the UK.

What you will bring to the role
To provide and be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the perioperative patient. To carry out all relevant forms of care competently without direct supervision.

Communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care and promote effective team working.

To assist with the teaching and supervision of learners and other staff.

The jobholder will work within an environment caring for peri-operative patients.

Qualifications - Essential Criteria

Registered Nurse (Level 1) or Registered Operating Department Practitioner

Willing to undergo training as necessary

Ability to demonstrate and explain skills to other staff

Qualifications - Desirable

Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

Experience - Essential criteria

Current issues in health care

Understanding of the principles of patient centred care

Experience - Desirable

Insight into clinical speciality.
