Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Clinical Research Nurse, to join our Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) at St Mary's Hospital on a one-year secondment. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to get involved with delivering clinical research throughout children's and neonatal services at Imperial.

The successful applicant for this post will be part of a first-class team of research delivery staff, who manage our ongoing neonatal studies. This role will support the Children Clinical Research Facility with the set up and delivery of Neonatal and Paediatric studies. The post-holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards patients' well-being and is conducted in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.

Previous experience in relevant clinical fields would be highly desirable but is not essential as long as the applicant has a strong foundation of clinical skills in neonatal and paediatric care. The role will be supported with all the necessary training required to ensure patient safety and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to the highest level of excellence. Experience in clinical research is desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will support the aims of the Trust and the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) in developing both clinical and academic research knowledge and skills to improve the speed, quality and integration of clinical research in the NHS.
  • The focus of the role will be to provide a grounding in clinical practice and an academic framework conducting research particularly into children's respiratory and allergy conditions.
  • Act as a recognised expert and professional role model within the clinical research environment, including direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, audit and research projects, which will involve managing a wide range of complex and sometime conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the research environment to support the delivery and development of research portfolios in order to take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects. This will include: the identification of suitable participants, co-ordination, recruitment, performance and maintenance of study documentation; enabling patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice, information and acting as the patients advocate.
