Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work as an autonomous practitioner in undertaking ophthalmic imaging using a variety of techniques, for patients of all ages, ranging from children to the elderly and who have various communication abilities.

To work within the Ophthalmology virtual clinic, utilising additional clinical skills to complete a full assessment in line with the clinical protocols/procedures.

Participate in the theoretical and clinical teaching of ophthalmic imaging to colleagues, students or other health professional visiting the department

Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to undertake the role of ophthalmic science practitioner

To participate in departmental audit and research projects

Ensure compliance with infection control procedures.

Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework.

Person specification

Training and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in photgraphy or equiavalent clinical experience within ophthalmic imaging


Desirable criteria
  • Degree in ophthalmic imaging or related ophthalmic profession


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent ophthalmic imaging clinical experience


Desirable criteria
  • Experience within an ophthalmology virtual clinic service


Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Communicates effectively using a variety of methods
  • Adapts communication when barriers to understanding


Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiololgy and pathology
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to analyse quality of clinical images
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and work as a team


Other requirements

Essential criteria
  • Able to work various shifts including weekdays weekends and bank holidays and varying hours between 7.00am and 8.00pm to support service as required
