The postholder is responsible for providing a comprehensive, high-quality mechanical engineering maintenance service across the Trust's estate, ensuring that all plant, equipment and engineering systems are maintained in a safe, reliable and compliant condition to support the delivery of patient care. The role encompasses the planned and reactive maintenance of a wide range of mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, water services, pressure systems, medical gases and other specialist infrastructure, ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory legislation, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), British Standards, Trust policies and industry best practice. The postholder will use the Trust's CAFM system to manage, prioritise and record maintenance activities, ensuring accurate documentation of all works undertaken, compliance records, asset information and audit evidence. They will contribute to the achievement of regulatory compliance through participation in Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes, inspections, audits, risk assessments and permit-to-work systems, while actively identifying, escalating and mitigating risks that may affect operational service delivery.

The role requires a strong commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement, including monitoring equipment performance, analysing maintenance trends, supporting service improvement initiatives and contributing technical expertise to engineering projects and operational decision-making. The postholder will maintain up-to-date professional knowledge through ongoing training and development, supporting the Trust's compliance agenda and progression towards Competent Person, Responsible Person or Authorising Person status where appropriate. They will promote effective governance by adhering to all Health & Safety requirements, safe systems of work and risk management procedures, while ensuring contractors and colleagues work in accordance with statutory obligations and Trust standards. In addition, the postholder will support efficient financial management through the effective use of resources, stock control, procurement support and the delivery of cost-effective maintenance solutions.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Estates team, the postholder will provide a flexible and responsive service across all Trust sites, participating in the on-call rota and responding to emergency situations as required. They will liaise professionally with clinical teams, patients, visitors, contractors and colleagues, maintaining excellent communication and customer service standards at all times. The role requires the ability to operate as a multi-skilled technician, undertaking a variety of engineering and non-engineering maintenance tasks to support the wider Estates function, ensuring that the Trust's buildings, infrastructure and critical services remain safe, compliant, operationally effective and fit for purpose.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria

• City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services (e.g., Heating and Ventilation, Plumbing, or Mechanical Maintenance) OR NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering OR equivalent recognised apprenticeship
• Minimum of 3 years Industry relevant experience in delivery of multi-disciplined contract
• Registered with a recognised professional body (e.g., IWFM, CIBSE, IOSH, NEBOSH).

Desirable criteria

• BPEC or equivalent certification in Water Hygiene (HTM 04-01 / Legionella Awareness)
