Shape the Future of Dermatology Nursing

We are seeking an inspirational and experienced nurse leader to join our Dermatology Service as Lead Nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to influence and develop a forward-thinking service that delivers high-quality, patient-centred dermatology care across a diverse East London population.

Main duties of the job

The role of Matron is predominantly concerned with ensuring the delivery of high standards of patient centred care ensuring the cost-effective use of resources. It combines clinical expertise, leadership and educational/research skills with managerial and professional responsibilities.

The post holder will have overall accountability for the day to day management of the nursing service across the Whipps Cross Hospital Dermatology Outpatients department. The post holder will be responsible for the smooth and safe running of the whole service including budget control, clinical governance, staff development and training in conjunction with the service manager and clinical lead. The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable for. The post holder will be involved in the development of protocols / guidelines and patient information.

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience in Dermatology
  • Managing own patient case load alongside the supervisory consultant
  • Proven effective budgetary management
  • Experience of change management and service improvement
  • Experience of providing front line customer service


Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage and develop a team
  • Ability to use a computerised equipment management database system.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills - to manage own work area and work load.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Good customer relations and interpersonal skills. Able to function effectively as part of a large team.
  • Able to provide advice, instruction and training to small groups of staff relating to areas of own responsibility of work.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to continuously improving systems of working.
  • Ability to use MS Windows and Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.); to manage files and set up documents and spread sheets.


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the risks to patients and staff arising from the use of a range of equipment used in dermatology


Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level RN, ENB 998, or relevant teaching Qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional Development
  • Leadership Course/Development Programme
  • Post Basic Qualification relevant to area of practice
  • Working at master's degree level or undertaking a masters course


Other

Essential criteria
  • A good level of physical fitness and dexterity sufficient to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations.
  • Ability to work as part of MDT and provide leadership to the team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels across the department and the CAG
  • The ability to communicate with patients in an empathetic manner regarding their treatment and procedures.
  • Experience of equal opportunity policies and procedures.
  • To identify and take action when own or others undermines equality and diversity
