Who are we, and what is the role?

The Howden Markets team operates within Howden to implement the Group's strategy to co-ordinate, handle and develop strategic insurer and reinsurer relationships.

The job holder will be responsible for servicing and managing strategic capacity relationships for DUAL, within the context of the broader Howden carrier management and engagement strategy, led by Howden Markets.

The individual will work closely with the MGA broking teams and DUAL underwriting teams, to achieve closer strategic alignment between existing & prospective capacity providers and DUAL.

The job holders will be required;

  • To help build a strong, trusted relationship with the capacity providers/prospective capacity providers on behalf of DUAL (part of Howden)
  • To act as a point of contact for assigned capacity providers.
  • To understand the insurers' businesses and their needs in order to seek further opportunities for them to work in collaboration with DUAL or alternatively anticipate capacity challenges in advance.
  • To deliver data reporting on a periodic and/or ad hoc basis on behalf of DUAL for key capacity providers in order to maintain oversight, satisfaction levels, and promotional activity.
  • To support the wider DUAL Markets team on initiatives and projects that contribute to DUAL's and the Group's success.

Additionally, they are responsible for ensuring that day to day activities operate in accordance with applicable Company and/or Group policies to achieve targets, develop the business and deliver an excellent and comprehensive service.

What will you be doing?

Planning and Strategy:

  • Working with relevant stakeholders at key insurers (incumbent capacity providers or prospective capacity providers for DUAL) to understand insurer delegated appetite and business strategy. Often these will be one or a combination of carrier distribution teams, head of delegated underwriting, or C-suite executives.
  • Conduct and maintain mapping across key capacity providers and prospective markets.
  • Creation and supporting delivery of DUAL Market's collateral, working closely with DUAL's marketing and communications team (e.g DUAL value proposition, internal & external surveys)
  • Supporting the senior leadership team within DUAL via co-ordinating high level external engagement and all collateral ahead of time (eg. briefings, data, relevant news)
  • Delivers assigned tasks and also contributes to other projects and initiatives, as required
  • Provides relevant management information to senior representatives within DUAL, as required
  • Articulates the DUAL story and strategy to the insurance market at all times in a comprehensive manner
  • Understanding and delivery of business objectives regarding portfolio/digital strategy and placement, as required or relevant to DUAL
  • Creating new value internally for not only DUAL Group, but Howden Group by having awareness of key individuals, portfolios and opportunities internally.

Technology & Account Management:

  • Supports and leads the delivery of services to capacity providers or prospective capacity providers on behalf of DUAL
  • Skilled at data analysis and processing functions, such as, but not limited to, underwriting tools, processing platforms and Microsoft Excel
  • Keeps carrier clients and DUAL stakeholders informed, acting as a point of contact for queries to help ensure efficient and effective resolution
  • Both leads and assists with outlining solution options and making recommendations both internally and externally
  • Provides comprehensive data analysis and compiles reports/presentations to support projects
  • Identifies risks, highlighting these to relevant parties in good time and ensuring mitigating action is taken
  • Remains aware of the market landscape (e.g. competitors, potential changes/risks, industry standards, new opportunities etc.)

Policy, Process and Procedures:

  • Ensures up to date records are maintained at all times on the Group systems 
  • Keeps informed of all legal and regulatory developments relevant to DUAL/Howden
  • Follows the company processes and procedures 

Insurers/Capacity Providers & DUAL/Howden

  • Develops strong relationships with the Business Units within the Group and external stakeholders
  • Coordinates, manages and develops strategic insurer relationships to ensure delivery meets expectations and is compliant
  • Acts as a point of contact for capacity management requirements, issues and queries
  • Facilitates smooth communication between various parties within DUAL/Howden
  • Competently handles insurer issues relating to relationship management and raises them to Line Manager if needed
  • Grows capacity provider relationship to help expand future opportunities

Suppliers/Markets

  • Maintains relationships with third party solution providers
  • Maintains relationships with markets beyond incumbent and prospective capacity providers where required

Other

  • Promotes and ensures collaboration across other Howden Markets team pillars, e.g. Carrier Management, Consulting, Howden Tiger Markets, Placement Advisory
  • Promotes and instils confidence in DUAL Markets services/products across all partners
  • Ensures the wider DUAL Markets team understands capacity requirements and demands
  • Consistently delivers an excellent and comprehensive service
  • Shares information that could be beneficial to DUAL/Howden
  • Promotes what we value and contributes to a positive culture within Howden
  • Attends external seminars, forums and events where necessary, to positively represent the Group and increase own knowledge and understanding of changing needs and market trends

What do we need from you?

  • Understanding of the Relationship Management function in an insurance setting
  • Understanding on insurance industry and composite/Lloyd's insurer landscape
  • Understanding of London Market operations (Lloyd's, IUA, LPSO, LPC etc.)
  • Understanding on MGAs and the different procedures/rules that apply to a MGA compared to an insurer
  • Demonstrable experience within a broking/underwriting/relationship management role
  • Highly organised, with good planning/prioritisation/time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Enterprising: able to spot opportunities
  • Broad vision: sees connections and big picture
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Consultative and collaborative nature
  • Ability to manage expectations
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Highly proficient user of MS Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Educated to degree standard (desirable, but not crucial)
  • Commenced study for ACII
