Main duties of the job

As a Maintenance Assistant at Jubilee House in Barnsley, you will be integral to maintaining a secure and well-presented environment that supports some of the most vulnerable individuals. The role requires responsibility for ensuring the facilities are suitable for purpose and involve gardening and conducting regular audits to identify and address any faults. Working with an established team, you'll perform diverse maintenance tasks and collaborate with contractors. Necessary training will be provided, enabling you to make a positive difference while pursuing personal career development. Essential responsibilities will include ensuring the maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment, using DIY skills for safety, conducting regular checks and repairs, assisting in decorating, liaising with managers on defects, and participating in an on-call rota for emergencies. Success in this role demands compliance with procedures, prior maintenance experience, effective teamwork, respect towards residents, and participation in training and meetings.

As a Maintenance Assistant you will have:

• Assisting with ensuring that the service, buildings, facilities and equipment requirements are maintained and fit for purpose.
• Utilising good DIY skills to ensure safety of service users is maintained.
• Assisting in regular checks and maintenance.

• Participating in a 1 week retaining on-call rota for the purposes of emergency maintenance.
• Coordinating and supporting contractors whilst on site and completing of all paperwork and tool checks.

• Show courtesy and respect to residents at all times to ensure that they enjoy the highest quality of service.

You will be working at a specialist care home with nursing in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Jubilee House is a registered care service which embraces and balances the management of risk with comfort, homeliness, dignity, respect and choice.

The mixed gender service is for people living with Learning Disabilities, Autism, sensory and communication impairments.

You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with complex needs and behaviours which may challenge services. The service is staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team made up of registered manager, nurses and support workers.

The service is intended for those individuals who require a high level of support to live within a community setting and will continue to require this longer term. Service users may be referred who are transitioning from hospital or children's services, or where their community placement is no longer able to meet their needs.

The service is only 4 miles from Barnsley town centre with direct bus access. Barnsley has good transport links across the region and is close to the M1.
