Internal candidates who are permanent employees of Luton Council will be appointed on a secondment basis, while external candidates and other eligible applicants will be appointed on a fixed-term contract for 1 year.Current Luton Council employees applying for this opportunity must obtain written approval from their manager before applying (an email will suffice). A copy of this approval must be included with the application, as we will be unable to progress applications without it.Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.What You'll be doing Are you passionate about improving lives and making a real difference in your community? We're looking for a proactive and compassionate Macmillan Community Engagement Officer to help shape and improve cancer services across Luton and surrounding areas.
In this rewarding role, you'll build strong relationships with local communities, voluntary organisations, NHS partners and other stakeholders, ensuring the voices of people affected by cancer are heard and acted upon. You'll plan and deliver community engagement activities, run workshops and events, promote cancer awareness and screening, and help tackle health inequalities.
What we're looking forWe're looking for someone with excellent communication and relationship-building skills, experience of community engagement or project delivery, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities. You'll be comfortable engaging with diverse communities, producing reports, using databases and social media, and working flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends.
