Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria

• On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
• On GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
• MBBS
• FRCOphth or equivalent

Leadership/ management skills

Essential criteria

• Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
• Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues.
• Knowledge of finance/budgets
• Management of staff
• Recognised leadership training

Teaching & Training

Essential criteria

• Experience of teaching and training ophthalmic trainees, medical students, nurses, orthoptists and GPs
• Completed courses for training trainers, assessment and appraisal

Academic achievements

Essential criteria

• Publications in peer reviewed ophthalmic journals related to Glaucoma
• Experience in research projects.

Language

Essential criteria

• Candidates are able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

Audit

Essential criteria

• Understanding of principles of clinical audit
• Understanding of clinical governance

Knowledge/ skills

Essential criteria

• Specialist training (fellowship) in - Glaucoma
• Consultant experience in Glaucoma ophthalmology
• Consultant experience in dealing with general ophthalmic emergencies
• Consultant experience of providing high volume and complex cataract surgery and managing complications of cataract surgery
