Locum Consultant in Frailty and Geriatrics

Job summary

We are seeking a consultant in Frailty to be a robust part of our emergency department and Frailty Assessment Unit alongside our other consultants. This will lead away from age related services towards an acute frailty service. Alongside this is an agreement to further implement an Acute Physician led AMU model supported by specialty in reach rotas. As part of this it is planned to change HCOOP referral from an age criterion to a frailty one.

Main duties of the job

Main duties for this role include:

o Deliver high-quality care to older adults with a wide range of frailty-related conditions, including multi-morbidity, cognitive impairment, falls, delirium, functional decline, and complex geriatric syndromes.o Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings focused on care planning, discharge coordination, and management of complex cases.o Contribute to the acute frailty service, inpatient geriatric wards, and outpatient clinics.o Be encouraged to take part in the Acute General Medicine on-call rota if able and willing.

Qualifications and training

Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
• Progress in MRCP (UK) Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Formal training in Geriatrics training programme or equivalent.

Desirable

• Foundation, IMT and HST programme certificates.
• Evidence of teaching experience

Skills and experience

Essential

• Possess range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.

Desirable

• Interest in: Movement Disorder/Parkinson's
• 12 years of postgraduate experience with at least 6 years in Medicine.

Clinical governance

Essential

• Recognises and takes responsibility for safeguarding children, young people and adults, using appropriate systems for identifying, sharing information, recording and raising concerns, obtaining advice and taking actions.
• Applies appropriate equality and diversity legislation, including disability discrimination requirements, in the context of patient care.
