This is a full time post. However NUH are committed to supporting flexible working where possible and there will be an opportunity at interview to discuss individual preference. This service provided by the Clinical Haematology Specialty is provided across both campuses, with the primary base will be Queens Medical Centre

The proposed Job Plan is detailed in this job description. It accounts for 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising:

7.875 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC), including ward rounds, clinics, patient administration, clinical diagnostic work, MDTs, and GP advice and guidance.

2.125 PAs of supporting professional activities (SPAs) include appraisal, audit, teaching, educational supervision and network meetings

Person specification

Professional registration/qualifications

Essential criteria

• Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
• Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview

Professional Qualifications/Development

Essential criteria

• FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
• MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification

Desirable criteria

• Higher professional degree

Clinical Skills/Experience

Essential criteria

• An interest and thrombosis and haemostasis
• Ability to offer general advice on red cells and general haematology
• Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.

Desirable criteria

• Specific training in communication skills
• Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors

Management Skills

Essential criteria

• Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery.
• Able to delegate appropriately.
• Ability to work co-operatively with others and demonstrate leadership when appropriate.
• The ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams

Desirable criteria

• Higher management degree or qualification or training
• Experience of change management

Personal Skills/Qualities

Essential criteria

• Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals
• Able to work flexibly in a changing health service
• Able to use the Trust's IT support systems

Desirable criteria

• Formal communication skills training

Teaching, Audit & Research

Essential criteria

• Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
• Evidence of ability to teach and support junior staff effectively
• GCP training

Desirable criteria

• Experience of clinical trials in haematology
• Higher teaching degree or qualification or attendance at educational supervisor training event

Practical Requirements

Essential criteria

• Ability to travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen's Medical Centre campus as required
