• - Locum Cardiac Surgeon (six-month appointment)
• - Independent experience in combined surgical procedures and redo surgery
• - Successful applicant will join on a 1:5 on call rota to cover for cardiac emergencies and provide cardiac surgical support to the Major Trauma Centre at St. Mary's Hospital, Imperial College NHS Trust. A consultant of the week arrangement has been introduced, covering the wards and providing pre/post-operative cover for patients while other consultants are off-site.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

• MBBS or equivalent
• FRCS or equivalent
• On, or eligible for inclusion on, the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• GMC Licence to Practise
• Specific Training in Cardiac Surgery

Knowledge/skills

Essential criteria

• Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit of personal operating log
• IT Skills and computer literacy

Leadership/ management skills

Essential criteria

• Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
• Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital
• Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures

Teaching and training

Essential criteria

• Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.

Audit

Essential criteria

• Understanding of principles of clinical audit

Peer reviewed publications on general cardiac surgical topics

Essential criteria

• Academic achievements including research/publications

Language

Essential criteria

• Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English
