The primary role of the Data Technician is to contribute to the collection, organisation, and study of
data to provide business insight and support to the LGR programme working closely with data
experts from across Devon and the LGR Programme's Strategic Partner.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Project Support:
• To provide a project management support function during the development and implementation
of data and information management systems across the LGR programme, which may include
taking a lead on specific bounded projects under the supervision of a Data Leads.
• To assist with the preparation of briefs and specifications for system development and
commissioning.
Communication and Open Data:
• To assist in the design, development, management, and maintenance of the LGR programme
Data Hub and SharePoint platform, including interface with contractors and partners.
• To assist with the development and maintenance of the Data Hub provision, identifying,
implementing, and monitoring the quality of the data sets
• To support the communication of developments in business systems to LGR programme
managers and other programme staff throughout the LGR programme.
Business system innovation and development:
• To provide support to the Data leads with work relating to providing statistics and analysing
data in order to evidence issues being presented at progress meetings.
• To support Data leads in preparation of analytical reporting using a variety of techniques to
extract and analyse data to identify trends and present summary findings. For example, with
the creation of a Power BI, identifying the data that is outside of the norm and getting the data
issues resolved in the source data, before publishing the Power BI Dashboard.
• To keep up to date with the functionality and capability of systems and tools commissioned for
use within the LGR programme, including external specialists.
• To work within teams with colleagues, partners, and external agencies to identify opportunities
for service improvement through use of evolving technology and data management techniques.
• To work in a supporting role as directed by data leads from across 11 local authorities in Devon
and the programme management office on the development, testing and to support roll out of
key data projects and workstreams, and initiatives.
