Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional and highly experienced senior nurse to join Acute & Specialist Medicine as Lead Nurse for Acute Medicine at St Mary's Hospital. This is a pivotal leadership role within the Directorate Management Team.

The post holder will provide strategic, professional, clinical and operational nursing leadership across a broad and complex portfolio, while working closely with Emergency Department colleagues to strengthen urgent and emergency care pathways.

The successful candidate will work in partnership with the Lead Nurse for Specialist Medicine, Clinical Director, General Manager, Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing and wider multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality and compassionate care, improve patient flow and experience and drive sustainable service improvement.

We would welcome applications from experienced senior nurses who are ready to provide visible leadership, work collaboratively across urgent and emergency care, and lead the next phase of Acute Medicine development.

Main duties of the job

• Strategic and professional leadership
• Provide visible, compassionate and inclusive nursing leadership across Acute Medicine.
• Contribute to directorate, divisional and Trust strategy, translating priorities into clear and measurable delivery plans.
• Lead service redesign and transformation, ensuring clinical quality, workforce sustainability and operational performance remain aligned.
• Provide professional advice and assurance to senior leaders on nursing, quality, safety and patient experience.
• Lead the quality, safety and governance agenda across the portfolio.
• Ensure effective systems are in place to review incidents, complaints, patient feedback, audits and quality indicators, with clear learning and action.
• Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement, innovation, openness and accountability.
• Maintain strong oversight of regulatory standards, professional practice and compliance with Trust policies.
• Champion co-production and ensure the patient and carer voice informs service improvement
