Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and highly motivated midwife to provide strong clinical and managerial leadership within the maternity service and deputise for the Labour Ward Matron in their absence.

The successful candidate will lead and support multidisciplinary teams, including midwifery, medical and support staff, as well as students, ensuring the safe and effective management of the delivery suite and wider service. They will demonstrate a proactive approach to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, woman-centred care, facilitating patient flow across clinical areas and enhancing the experience of women and their families.This role includes a 0.4 WTE clinical commitment (two days per week), maintaining direct clinical involvement while supporting service leadership and operational management.

The post holder will play a key role in quality improvement initiatives, supporting the implementation, embedding and evaluation of service developments and improvement projects. Working closely with maternity matrons and key stakeholders, they will ensure the delivery of equitable, person-centred, and evidence-based care that aligns with national standards, recommendations, and relevant maternity reports and guidelines.

The successful candidate will be visible, approachable, and accessible to women, their families, and staff, fostering a culture of openness and support.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, medical team students and ensuring effective management the activities of the delivery suite area as well as the service as a whole.

The post holder, to be proactive in providing high standards of midwifery care, facilitate patient flow to other clinical areas thus increasing positive experience for women and their families.

The post holder to be part of the quality improvement projects in the unit,support in the implementation, embedding and evaluation of results.

The post holder will work with maternity matrons and other stake holders to ensure staff deliver a level of service that is equitable, person-centred and evidence-based care that are consistent with the recommendations of all relevant reports and guidelines.
