We are looking for an intelligence professional to lead intelligence and analysis across Newport City Council's Public Protection Service. You will identify emerging threats, produce high-quality analytical products and give decision-makers the insight they need to protect residents, visitors and businesses.
Why This Role Matters
Your work will shape investigations, enforcement activity, service planning and policy. By building a strong evidence base and connecting intelligence across teams and partner agencies, you will help target resources where they can make the greatest difference.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead strategic and tactical assessments, problem profiles and subject profiles.
- Identify emerging risks and turn complex data into clear, actionable insight.
- Produce intelligence products and analytical evidence for investigations, senior leaders, partners and the courts.
- Use advanced analytical techniques, including data mining, network analysis, databases and geographic information systems.
- Advise colleagues on intelligence gathering, information sharing, sanitisation and relevant legal requirements.
- Build strong intelligence networks across the Council, law enforcement and partner agencies.
- Help secure effective prevention and enforcement action against threats to consumers and businesses.
What We're Looking For
You will be an experienced intelligence professional with a strong record of research, data analysis and partnership working in a law-enforcement environment. You will combine sound judgement, curiosity and attention to detail with the confidence to influence decisions and present complex findings clearly.
A degree or equivalent qualification in a numerate discipline-or significant high-level intelligence experience-is essential. You will understand intelligence operating models, data protection, human rights and related regulation. Professional intelligence-analysis qualifications and experience of tools such as i2 are desirable.
Why Join Us?
