Experience

Essential criteria

• Has ≥5 years whole time equivalent (WTE) speciality experience working at an Enhanced level within an Urgent or Emergency Care setting
• Competent in the clinical assessment and management of all patient groups
• Able to role model and lead whilst working independently and within a team
• Experience of teaching at informal and formal level

Desirable criteria

• Have had line management experience
• Participated in audit and developed service improvement strategies
• Has had appraisal and recruitment training

Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and expertise of the duties of Enhanced Practice
• Awareness of local and national issues relating to healthcare provision
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Competent in interpretation of clinical diagnostics such as blood results and making an appropriate plan based on results
• Competent to interpret plain radiographs / X-rays and make appropriate clinical interventions from diagnostics
• Has evidence of a recently undertaken audit of own practice and implemented changes where required

Desirable criteria

• Competent in 12 lead ECG interpretation
• Experience of working on a Trust committee or group

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

• NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Paramedic or Physiotherapist
• Advanced Clinical Assessment Module (Level 6 or 7)
• Minor Injuries Module (Level 6 or 7)
• Minor Illness Module (Level 6 or 7)
• Independent Prescriber (V300)
• Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children (level 3)
• IR(ME)R certificate
• Immediate Life Support provider (ILS) or willing to undertake
• Paediatric Immediate Life Support provider (PILS) or willing to undertake
• Current Portfolio/ePortfolio of practice evidence
• Leadership qualification or willing to undertake

Desirable criteria

• Master's degree in advanced clinical Practice (or in certain circumstances has completed Health Education England (HEE) ACP ePortfolio
• Advanced Life Support provider (ALS) - or equivalent or willing to undertake
• European Paediatric Advanced Life Support provider (EPALS) - or equivalent or willing to undertake
• Advanced Trauma Life Support provider (ATLS) - or equivalent
• Working toward accreditation/credentialling within area of work speciality
• Generic Instructor Course (GIC) for the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) or Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG)
• Teaching / Assessment and mentoring qualification

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

• Demonstrate a clear vision and the role of the Enhanced Practice service
• Ability to initiate, sustain and evaluate change
• Organised, able to prioritise, make decisions and meet targets/deadlines
• Willingness to embrace change to meet the short-term and long-term needs of the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) directorate
• Ability to support staff in a demanding and challenging environment
• Personable - good role model
• Able to work under pressure with flexibility in approach
• Good negotiation and advocacy skills
• Can undertake basic wound management (e.g., clean, medical photography, steri -strips, medical glue, appropriate dressing etc.)
• Can undertaken advanced wound management techniques (e.g., suturing, staples etc.)
• Can identify critical Limb injuries and know how to manage including dislocations and those needing manipulation
• Has good understanding on pain management and methods to reduce pain (e.g., analgesia, slings, cold compress, immobilisation etc)

Other

Essential criteria

• Must be able to work full-time / 37.5 hours per week.
• Must be able to work full variety of shifts (currently 0800-1900, 0830-1730, 1100-2200 & 1300-0000 - subject to change)
• Hold portfolio/e-portfolio of evidence including a variety of work-place based assessments (WPBAs) e.g. Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS), Case Based Discussions (CBDs) etc.
• Ability to work in various locations throughout the UEC within NWAFT

Where your role requires a DBS check, the Trust will pay the fee upfront and reclaim the cost (including a £5 admin fee) from your first month's salary. Volunteers are exempt.
