About the HCPC

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is a multi-professional regulator in the UK, regulating more than 360,000 health and care professionals across 15 professions. Our role is to protect the public by:

  • setting the standards for the health and care professions we regulate
  • keeping an accurate Register of professionals who meet those standards
  • quality assuring education and training programmes
  • responding proportionately to fitness to practise concerns

The HCPC is entering an exciting new strategic period, having just published our new corporate strategy 2026-31, which seeks to build on our successes of the last five years from a position of greater confidence and stability.

 

About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Lay Council member. The Council is the HCPC’s governing body, responsible for setting strategic direction, making key decisions and holding the Executive to account.

The post holder for this role is also likely to be asked to chair the Council’s Audit and Risk Assurance Committee.

As a Council member and Committee Chair, you will contribute to strategic decision-making, provide constructive challenge, and ensure good governance and effective risk management.

This is your opportunity to play a significant role in an organisation with national reach, deep societal impact and a clear statutory mission, and to help shape the current and future regulation of the sector.

Time commitment: Approximately 30 days per year

Location: In person Council meetings are held in our London office. Committee meetings are normally held virtually.

 

About you

You will have:

  • experience of strategic and collective decision-making
  • the ability to develop strong relationships
  • the ability to uphold the HCPC’s principles of transparency and accountability
  • a commitment to public protection, equality, diversity and inclusion

We want to hear from candidates with recent and relevant financial experience and an accountancy qualification.
