We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Porter to join our friendly Hospitality team, supporting the delivery of high quality catering services to our residents and service users.As a Kitchen Porter, you will play an important role in supporting our catering and wider hospitality services. Working alongside the Chef and wider hospitality team, you will help ensure that our kitchens are clean, safe and well organised, while supporting the delivery of high quality food and customer service.
You will work within a Jewish Care home or community centre and may also support our Housekeeping and Events teams when required. This is a varied role where you will contribute to creating a welcoming environment and ensuring our residents and service users receive an excellent hospitality experience.
You will need to work safely and hygienically at all times and ensure that food preparation, storage and kitchen activities meet the required health, safety and food hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities - Support the Kitchen and wider Hospitality teams to deliver a high quality service that meets the needs of residents and service users.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and food storage areas.
- Support the preparation and service of nutritious food and beverages in line with agreed mealtimes and instructions from the Head Chef.
- Prepare special diet meals when required and in accordance with individual needs.
- Understand and follow the Dementia Dining Experience requirements.
- Ensure food deliveries are received, checked and stored correctly in line with Jewish Care policies and procedures.
- Support effective stock control and help minimise food waste.
- Ensure appropriate food hygiene, health and safety and COSHH procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate due diligence and compliance records.
- Respond positively to feedback and help resolve complaints or concerns, reporting issues to the Head Chef where appropriate.
- Support Hospitality, Housekeeping and Events teams when required.
- Participate in events held at the service.
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues and provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Attend mandatory training and actively participate in supervision, one to one meetings and annual performance reviews.
- Work flexibly within your contracted hours to support the effective delivery of the service.
About YouWe are looking for someone who is reliable, positive and flexible, with a genuine commitment to providing an excellent kitchen and hospitality service.
You will ideally have previous experience of working in a kitchen environment and understand the importance of maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and safety. Experience of working within a care environment would be beneficial, but is not essential.
You will also need: - A willingness to undertake an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery and Social Care Catering.
- An understanding of COSHH and workplace health and safety, or a willingness to undertake training.
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, Kashrut practices.
- Sensitivity towards the needs and experiences of vulnerable people.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to provide excellent customer service.
- The ability to build positive relationships quickly with residents, colleagues and other stakeholders.
- A willingness to take responsibility for your own learning and development.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a diverse, multicultural team.
