The 14 chaired day unit cares for patients with a range of cancers whoare receiving chemotherapy. We aim to provide an individualized and supportiveenvironment for patients in which to deliver this specialized high standardcare.

We are looking for someone who wants to increase their Oncology/Haematologyexperience and wants to work within this rewarding environment. Applicantsshould BE TRAINED IN SACT AND HOLD UKONS PASSPORT. If you have cannulation, phlebotomy, or central linesskills it will be an advantage, but if not, then you should have enthusiasm anddexterity to develop these skills. The ability to communicate effectively withall members of the multidisciplinary team is essential.

The sister on unit will be leading the team andensure the patient flow is maintained throughout. Will have the opportunity to support themanager, improve services, promote and develop changes, support a small team ofstaff including band 5s and hcas with PDRs, development opportunities andsupport with sickness meetings.

Main duties of the job

Assistin the management of the department on a day-to-day basis and manage thedepartment in the absence of Chemotherapy unit manager including coordinationof patient, allocating staff breaks and being a key link with the consultantsand pharmacy team.

Assesspatients for chemotherapy to ensure their physical condition and blood parameters are satisfactory to safelyreceive treatment.

Provideinformation regarding treatment and side effects to ensure each patient isprepared for their specific treatment and elicit informed consent.
