Job summary

Applications are invited for the position of Junior Clinical Fellow in Urology.

The Department of Urology at the Royal Gwent Hospital is staffed by 10 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 4 Specialist Registrars (trainees), 2 Senior Clinical Fellows, 3 Junior Clinical Fellows (including this post), 1 IST trainee and 3 FP2 trainees. In addition, specialist nurses provide part of our key services. We provide services within all subsections of urology, and we link into tertiary centres for more advanced reconstruction and andrology.

The Health Board covers a key geographical area on the Welsh border, with Cardiff and Bristol within commuting distance and direct links by road and rail to major UK centres such as London, Birmingham and Manchester

Main duties of the job

This post will sit alongside F2/Core Training doctors in Urology. Clinical experience, supervision and training will be at a similar level F2s/ Core trainees. The post is suitable for any candidate who wishes to obtain further experience in Urology prior to Core training application or higher surgical training application in urology. Engagement with portfolio development including workplace-based assessments, audit and teaching will be encouraged and supported. Advice and support with regard to applications to future training will also be offered. The post will have the same study leave and annual leave as that of a recognised training post. Some funding for training courses can be discussed.
