Job description

Proud to be Sunderland

The University of Sunderland offers life‑changing opportunities for more than 27,500 students across our campuses in Sunderland, London and Hong Kong, as well as through global partnerships in 19 countries.

We're an inclusive, ambitious and forward‑looking University in a vibrant city that's constantly evolving. We're also entering an exciting new phase with a refreshed vision and strategic ambitions shaped around the changing higher education landscape.

As we move through 2026, we're celebrating being recognised as:

  • A top 30 UK university (Guardian University Guide 2026)
  • 1st in the North‑East for student support services (Daily Mail University Guide 2026)
  • 1st in the North‑East for teaching quality (The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026)
The International Office and our India Office sit at the heart of the University's global engagement and growth. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering both student recruitment and Transnational Education (TNE) activity in one of our most strategically important markets.

Your next opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing, ambitious team with a strong track record of success. You will benefit from the support, resources, and expertise of colleagues across India and the UK, enabling you to make a significant impact and achieve ambitious goals. This is a home-based position, ideally located in Northern India while remaining closely connected to a wider India and UK-based team.

You will lead the University's activities across Northern India, managing a small team and driving engagement with partners, attending recruitment events, and delivering a regional strategy that supports the achievement of ambitious student recruitment targets. The postholder will also play a key role in developing and maximising institutional partnerships to enhance the University's recruitment, research collaborations, reputation, and broader strategic presence within India.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional looking to make a significant impact in one of the University's most important international markets.

Is this you?

We are seeking an ambitious and forward-thinking individual who thrives on building strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be equally comfortable providing guidance and support to prospective students, collaborating with our agent network, and working closely with institutional partners to achieve agreed recruitment objectives and strategic goals. As a senior representative of the University, you will contribute to the management and development of our wider operations in India, acting as an ambassador for the institution and strengthening our profile across the region.

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the UK international student recruitment landscape and the ability to translate market insights into successful recruitment outcomes across an assigned geographical region. A track record of building effective partnerships, delivering results, and identifying opportunities for growth will be highly valued.

Significant travel throughout the designated region, as well as occasional travel elsewhere in India and to the UK, will be required. The role may also involve evening and weekend work to support recruitment events, partner engagement activities, and other key initiatives.
