Job DescriptionThe current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
Intern editor for the Northern Quota journalism news site. The roe involves working alongside journalism tutors to increase student engagement on the site and to act as news editor for producing, editing and publishing content.
The intern editor will help to arrange news days, conduct news meetings, source story ideas, edit content, manage social media accounts and work on the website Wordpress system.
They will also manage the electronic news dairy and email account and set up a Slack account for all users, as well as managing news lists and using PA Media content to drive content and organise editorial workflows. An emphasis on the need to drive vertical video for reach and engagement, pushing the drive for video content on platforms such as TikTok.
Duration: Semester 1
Hours of Work: 4 hours per week
Details of training: Any relevant training will be delivered once the role has started
Person SpecificationThis role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements -
- Are studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate Journalism course.
- A working knowledge of WordPress as a content management system
- An understanding of SEO and how to use data from Google Analytics to track reach and engagement of content
- Competent use of Adobe suites, including InDesign
- Confident in leading a news team and producing story ideas and leads
- Organisational skills in managing emails, the news diary, workflows and monitoring of social media
- A keen understanding of the news landscape and application of solid news values
