Job overview

Reporting to the Divisional Director of Operations, and professionally accountable to the Divisional Director, the General Manager is responsible for the operational and strategic management of a large, complex directorate across the Trust. The post holder leads service delivery and improvement at scale, managing multiple services/sites, and influencing regional and system-wide developments.

The post holder will leads the service delivery and improvement within a single directorate, ensuring high-quality care and efficient use of resources, ensuring their directorate provides high quality patient care and achieves its performance objectives. This will include accountability for the delivery of high quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality, and delivery of people and financial metrics.

They will have shared responsibility with the other General Managers and members of the divisional management team for driving forward division wide programmes of work and service developments.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivery of agreed performance indicators in relation to clinical outcomes, clinical efficiency, financial sustainability and productivity gains, and service line reporting.
  • Ensure the Directorate has clearly defined performance objectives supported by a management regime to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Manage the implementation of systems, control processes and risk management arrangements to support monitoring of compliance with clinical governance standards,
    other Trust-wide policies and processes and best practice requirements;
  • Responsible for maximising staff engagement across the directorate through effective leadership and the application for best practice in people management.
  • Be accountable to the Divisional Director of Operations for the sound financial management of the directorate, in line with Standing Financial Instructions and following the latest Trust guidance.
  • Support the Divisional Director in identifying both new opportunities for the individual services within the directorate, arising from changes in the external environment or internal innovation and potential threats and ways to respond to them;
