This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We'll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there's no obligation for you to accept the work offered.

The Opportunity

Barnsley College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Instructor to support the delivery of our Animal Care and Management provision at Wigfield Farm.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with industry experience and a passion for education to inspire learners and help them develop practical skills in a real-world environment.

Working alongside Course Leaders and Programme Managers, you will play a key role in delivering practical instruction, supporting student development, and ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, health and safety, and learner engagement.

As an Instructor, you will provide practical teaching, instruction and support to students both individually and in groups.

You will help create an engaging learning environment where learners can develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress within the animal care industry. The role also involves preparing learning materials, carrying out assessments, supporting learner progress, maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Based at our unique land-based provision, Wigfield Farm, you will work closely with colleagues to deliver high-quality practical learning experiences while promoting excellent standards of animal care and welfare.

About You

You will be passionate about supporting learners and helping them achieve their full potential. With relevant experience within the land-based or animal care sector, you will be confident delivering practical instruction and providing guidance to students in both individual and group settings.

You will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate a positive, proactive and enthusiastic approach.

A strong commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, alongside a dedication to high standards of animal welfare and health and safety, is essential.

Required

• Relevant Level 3 qualification in Animal Care, Animal Management or a related land-based subject
• Level 2 Maths and English (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent)
• Minimum of 2 years' experience within the land-based or animal care sector
• Ability to train, instruct and assess students effectively
• Experience supporting learner development and achievement
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage learners and colleagues at all levels
• Ability to use appropriate digital learning technologies (ILT)
• Positive, motivational and enthusiastic approach
• Strong team working skills and ability to adapt to change
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
