Infrastructure Engineer

We're looking for a mid level Infrastructure Engineer to join our Which? Technology team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Despite the current circumstances we are still actively recruiting for roles. In compliance with UK Government advice relating to COVID-19, this role may initially be remotely based in line with the rest of our workforce and we will supply you with the tools and technologies to enable you to work in this way. During this phase, interviews will likely be conducted over video conferencing technology, e.g. Google Hangouts or similar.

It's a pivotal time for Technology at Which? as we drive forward our ambitious transformation programme, evolve into a product centred business and create even more stand out experiences for consumers which will enable us to advance our charitable mission. Over the next twelve months we will be developing both our commercial and advocacy product offering, trialing new lean and agile ways of working and driving innovation at every opportunity.

What you'll be doing:

You'll be joining a small team of experts that work as part of our wider Tech team. It's a busy and varied role and we'll expect you to take responsibility for a wide range of tasks. Key priorities for the role include:
  • Support the agile way of working within the Platforms team (e.g. standups, planning sessions, retrospectives).
  • Build strong working relationships with internal team members and external stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of the latest Infrastructure technologies, trends, tools and practices.
  • Evaluate new technologies and help to introduce them into the Platforms team where appropriate.
  • Support the migration of existing infrastructure to AWS, Azure and SAAS platforms.
  • Create infrastructure from code for each of required environments (test, preprod, prod).
  • Script all infrastructure configuration and ensure that all environments/stacks are templatized and organised into reusable components.
  • Apply best security practice to all infrastructure and applications that the team works on.
  • Help to improve Platform team processes.

What we'll need from you:
  • Experiencing building high availability distributed systems with horizontal scalability.
  • Experience building infrastructure from code and config for high volume services.
  • VMware VCentre and VMWare ESXi implementation and design.
  • Programming experience in Powershell.
  • Knowledge of configuration management software such as: Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Ansible
  • Windows system administration experience.
  • In-depth experience of technical debugging and analysis of infrastructure and web applications.
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server Administration, Database Design, TSQL, Stored Procedures/Triggers, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • In depth knowledge of operational and application security.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts such as: DNS, Windows Internet Name Service (Wins), DHCP, Routing, Subnets, VPNs, Sockets, the OSI model, TCP and UDP.
  • Windows System Deployment to AWS or Azure.
  • Active Directory administration and design.
  • Experience of deploying the Office365 suite within an enterprise scale company.
