Job description
The University of Cambridge is globally recognised as a leading centre for research, education, and scholarship. Employing more than 13,000 staff across academic, research, and professional services roles, the University relies on the expertise and dedication of its people to maintain and strengthen its world-leading reputation. Recognising that its staff are its greatest asset, the University is committed to creating an environment where everyone can thrive, ensuring the continued success of its teaching, research, and wider mission.
The Casual Worker HR Team is part of the HR Shared Service and provides a comprehensive support service to University departments in managing the University's casual workforce. The team offers expert advice and guidance on the use of the Cambridge Casual Worker System (CCWS), which is used to manage key aspects of casual worker administration, including right-to-work compliance, booking casual work, processing timesheets, and coordinating payroll.
We are a small, friendly, and supportive team committed to delivering a high standard of customer service to our colleagues. We work collaboratively with departments to support a more strategic approach to planning and managing the University's casual workforce, while promoting consistency and best practice across the organisation.
The Role: As an HR Administrator within the Casual Worker HR Team, you will support the Casual Worker HR Manager by providing a wide range of administrative support related to the University's casual workforce. Your responsibilities will include onboarding new casual workers, maintaining data integrity across HR systems, reviewing reports, processing leavers, and responding to a variety of enquiries. The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to key projects, including the annual Right to Work audit and the implementation of changes arising from employment legislation and University policies and guidance.
This is a busy and varied role, supporting approximately 700 departmental users and 12,000 casual workers across 130 departments. The scope of the role is expected to expand further as the team takes on additional responsibilities relating to examination activity across the University.
About you: Applicants should be educated to A-level standard (or equivalent) or possess a comparable level of practical experience. You should have experience working in an administrative environment and be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience of using query management systems and/or HR systems would be advantageous.
To succeed in this role, you will need to thrive in a fast-paced environment, remaining calm under pressure while managing multiple priorities and working to tight deadlines. Strong attention to detail is essential, together with excellent organisational skills and a commitment to delivering a consistently high standard of customer service.
