Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to Join Specialist Medicine Therapy team as a highly specialist rehabilitation physiotherapist (Band 7) at the Royal London Hospital.

It is a 6-month fixed term post starting 1st October 2026 to 31st March 2027. It's an exciting opportunity for any experienced Band 6 or Band 7 to work within Specialist Medicine team and gain
some experience.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual that is passionate about delivering evidence based, innovative care to patients living with a range of acute and chronic medical conditions. The team
covers the Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary, Renal wards and HDU, Endocrinology & Haematology, Respiratory and Cardiology wards including all neurological and stroke outliers. The Respiratory ward
has two 4 bedded enhanced care bays that cares for patients on NIV, heated high flow therapy and those with altered airways. Physiotherapists play a lead role in overseeing the enhanced respiratory care service alongside a dynamic team of respiratory consultants, trainees and nurses.

Successful candidates will be experienced in delivering quality improvement projects and will lead on service development under the guidance of the clinical leads.

Main duties of the job

o To work in a diverse multicultural environment in a leadership role within the specialist medicine team to deliver high quality, patient focussed care
o To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients living with long term conditions with complex rehabilitation needs across the acute medical wards including Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary, Renal, Endocrinology & Haematology, Respiratory and Cardiology
o To take a lead role in the advances assessment and treatment of outlying neurological and stroke patients on the medical wards including leading on facilitating their transition closer to home
o To support with clinical leads in service development leading on innovation and quality improvement in line with local and national healthcare priorities
o To be responsible for the induction, supervision, learning and development of rotational staff within the team.
o To be jointly responsible with clinical leads for overseeing clinical governance within the team including but not limited to managing clinical risk, staff development, and rota management.
o To support the overnight respiratory on-call services

• BSc Physiotherapy
• HCPC Registration

Desirable criteria

• Masters' modules relevant to specialist area
• Leadership Course
• Membership of Specialist Interest Group

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Extensive experience delivering acute rehabilitation for patients acute and chronic medical conditions such as renal, liver and heart failure, frailty and stroke/neurological conditions.
• Awareness of local and national policies relating to delivery of acute rehabilitation services including dosage of rehab interventions
• In-depth understanding of clinical governance
• Understanding of the opportunities and challenges of working within a culturally diverse environment
• Experienced in presenting and teaching skills to a variety of professionals
• Experienced in delivering clinical education to range of staff groups of varying knowledge
• Experience of leading a quality improvement/clinical effectiveness work based project/ Audit
• Experience of implementing people management policies including sickness absence and performance
• Experience of investigating and reporting on incidents and complaints

Desirable criteria

• Simulation Training Skills
• Experience in research
• Experience of managing a small team in a clinically defined area
