At Horder Healthcare, we're looking for a proactive and knowledgeable
Health & Safety Advisor to join our Clinical Governance team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting safety, compliance, risk management and continuous improvement across our organisation, including our independent hospital services.
Working closely with leaders, managers and colleagues across the business, you'll provide expert advice, conduct audits and investigations, develop policies and training, and ensure we continue to meet the highest standards of health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Main duties of the jobAs our Health & Safety Advisor, you'll be the organisation's subject matter expert on health and safety matters, helping to create a positive safety culture across all sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing professional health and safety advice and guidance across the organisation.
- Ensuring compliance with current and emerging Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Developing, reviewing and implementing Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Supporting and leading risk assessments across a variety of operational areas.
- Conducting safety inspections, audits and workplace reviews, ensuring actions are implemented and monitored.
- Investigating incidents, supporting action planning and analysing safety trends.
- Producing reports, safety statistics and performance updates for committees and senior leaders.
- Acting as the key point of contact for external regulators and agencies, including HSE reporting and inspections.
- Delivering and supporting Health & Safety training programmes.
- Working collaboratively with facilities, contractors and project teams to ensure safety is embedded in all activities and developments.
- Facilitating Health & Safety meetings and helping drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organisation.

- To hold responsibility for providing specialist, professional and effective advice and coordinating Health & Safety management for Horder Healthcare
- To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of duties to support the organisations Clinical Governance and Health & Safety function.
- To be the first contact for internal staff, external bodies and third parties on matters relating to Health & Safety.
- To keep up to date on current Health & Safety legislation / policy and ensure compliance by Horder Healthcare.
- Develop and implement new policies or update Health & Safety policies as required.
- Support the Executive and Management Teams with risk assessment processes and where required lead specific risk assessments.
- Assist all levels of the Health & Safety Management structure in providing employees with adequate information, instruction and training as may be necessary to perform their work without risk to themselves or others.
- Audit compliance to Health & Safety standards.
- Facilitate and chair the quarterly Health and Safety representative meeting
- Facilitate and, on occasions, Chair the quarterly Health & Safety committee meetings.
- Ensure statistics are prepared for all accidents and support accident investigations where appropriate. Produce monthly Reports.
- Assist with investigation and action planning for any Health & Safety related incidences reported through the local risk management system.
Carry out random safety checks to:
- Assess the risks present in a specific work area, workplace or process to identify unsafe working conditions and practices
- Make recommendations to remedy any defects found.
- Ensure any recommendations made are acted upon (schedule, review and record recommendations)
- Act as the key liaison to and support the Executive and Management Teams in any interaction with the Health & Safety Executive, including preparation for inspections, accident investigations and reporting under RIDDOR.
- Work alongside Training, Education & Development team to assist with general Health & Safety, and where appropriate fire training as required by the business.
- Audit safety performance within Horder Healthcare to agreed schedules. Produce audit reports for the Executive and Management Teams.
- Liaise with and where necessary, advise the Facilities Services on the Health & Safety implications of contractors and sub-contractors undertaking maintenance work on any of the organisations premises.
- Advise on the safety input for refurbishment and new build projects, equipment acquisitions to the needs of the project manager(s).
- Fully participate in plans for development / changes to Horder Healthcare to ensure environmental issues are prioritised and part of day to day working practices.

Person Specification About You Essential - IOSH Managing Safely qualification (minimum).
- NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety Management, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years' relevant Health & Safety experience if working towards qualification.
- Experience working with external regulatory bodies such as the HSE and Environment Agency.
- Experience working alongside contractors and third-party providers.
- Strong knowledge of risk assessments, safety inspections and audit processes.
- Experience developing and delivering Health & Safety training.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to travel between Horder Healthcare sites.
- Strong IT and database skills.
Desirable - Membership of a professional body such as IOSH (Tech IOSH or Grad IOSH).
