Salary: £71,859 to £79,599 a year plus £3,203 car benefit allowance
Hours: 37 hours a week

What You'll be doing

As Head of Safer Neighbourhoods, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for a diverse portfolio of services that play a vital role in creating safer, cleaner and more mobile neighbourhoods. Leading as part of the Neighbourhood Services senior leadership team, you will be responsible for the strategic development, performance and delivery of:

• Neighbourhood Enforcement
• Investigations
• Complex Investigations, including Priority Anti-Social Behaviour, Environmental Protection and Financial Investigations
• Parking Services
• Environmental Health
• Primary Authority
• Trading Standards

Acting as the senior professional lead, you will ensure high-quality, customer-focused services are delivered effectively within available resources. You will drive continuous improvement, innovation and service transformation, while building strong partnerships across the Council and with external agencies to tackle local challenges and achieve positive outcomes for residents, businesses and communities. Through strong leadership and a collaborative approach, you will help shape services that make a visible and lasting difference to the places where people live, work and visit.

What we're looking for

We're seeking an experienced and inspirational leader with a strong track record of managing high-performing teams within a regulatory services environment and a thorough understanding of local government democratic processes. You will bring substantial experience of leading complex, multi-disciplinary projects, working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to deliver strategic outcomes. With excellent communication, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills, you will be confident engaging with senior leaders, elected members, government bodies, partner organisations and external agencies. You will have the ability to think strategically, develop policy, and use sound professional judgement to make effective decisions in both routine and high-pressure situations. Highly organised and resilient, you will be adept at balancing competing priorities, managing significant workloads and ensuring service objectives are met. You will possess exceptional analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to present complex issues clearly, accurately and with well-reasoned recommendations. A thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing local authority regulatory services is essential, alongside experience of managing large and complex budgets, including income targets. You will also have specialist knowledge in at least one key service area, supported by relevant qualifications or equivalent professional experience, together with a recognised management qualification or significant management experience at a senior level.
