Advert Wording 18.5 hours per week, flexible between the hours of 7:00 am and 18:00 hrs Wednesday, Thursday & FridayBase is Batley Business Park, Technology Drive, Batley, WF17 6ER - but work will be at various sites across the district at the 10 business centres. Mileage allowance for use of your own vehicle. The Business Centre Service team is part of the Skills & Regeneration Service, and they play a key role in managing workspaces to support the establishment, growth and development of local businesses. The team operate several business centres, providing office, workshop, industrial, catering and retail space. The centres are open 365 days per year, and tenants have 24/7 secure access.
Working to support the operational maintenance across the sites you will carry out general cleaning, sweeping, waste disposal and basic maintenance tasks within a commercial and customer focused environment. You will be working both indoors and outdoors in all weather.
This role is offered on a part time basis and may suit someone looking to supplement other income. You will provide front-line customer services, requiring excellent customer care to ensure that the tenants and users of the business centres have the best possible environment to work in.
The work can be physically demanding, and duties include keeping the business centres clean and tidy, grounds maintenance, general basic and emergency repairs, carrying out building checks to ensure health and safety compliance in a timely and efficient manner, whilst always observing Health and Safety practices.
You will be supervising work personnel and contractors on site providing appropriate access and ensuring compliance with site safety requirements for example the Hot Works policy. You may also be required to lock and unlock buildings including deactivating and activating alarm systems.
The role involves direct liaison with customers, as some work may be required in tenanted units, communication with team colleagues, distributing to and collecting information from tenants. Some basic DIY experience and the ability to deal sensitively with contractors, visitors and customers is an important part of the job.
Working 18.5 hours per week on a flexible basis from Wednesday to Friday between the hours of 7:00 until 19:00 subject to service requirements, there may be an occasional requirement to work flexibly on other days during holiday periods and this will be agreed in advance.
You will be expected to travel between several work locations across Kirklees district, and a full and valid driving licence and use of your own vehicle is essential. A mileage allowance is payable, and the service also has a shared work van which both Handypersons can use during work time, subject to completion of Driver Training.

- Previous Handyperson/DIY or related trade experience
- Awareness of health and safety and COSHH procedures and regulations.
- A standard of literacy to be able to read written instructions and procedure notes, take messages and report incident
- Willingness to work flexibly with colleagues in a busy team to accommodate on demand service
